From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline including angels, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in strength within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and introduced the first table of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to begin their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.
This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the developments of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
First, the group understands precisely where to head next after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.
The traitor then cleared his debts and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
- Kattigan has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile location.
- Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- But, their position as key figures in House Halovar could assist the group access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The fighter pledged a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that control the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:
- The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and Wicander betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by the family.
This results in them few options but to journey toward the northern region in search of Casimir.
What’s Next?
Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Questers and Schemers tables.
Viewers can expect finding out which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
