Around fifty automobiles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then located multiple other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials report early analysis show the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; investigators are presently not informed of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities said they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the public for details.
A high-ranking political figure commented the attack left him stunned and required to be resolved quickly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing attack in 2020," he stated on online, referring to the murder of nine victims by a shooter targeting people of immigrant origin in 2020.
